I remember when I first started couponing I was following a few extreme couponing websites and they said the first thing you do is ditch your Costco membership, I could not bear the thought of ditching my beloved Costco! I don’t know what it is about Costco but I have a deep love for them, sure they don’t make the stores pretty and they are not enticing to walk through but some of those deals are great! I am so glad to this day I never gave up my membership. When I first started couponing I only had 2 little babies and didn’t realize the cost that was to come as they got older! Now I am forever grateful for not listening to those silly couponers! Yes, there are absolutely some things I refuse to purchase at Costco but I will save that for another post. So here it is……
- Milk $2.89 Per Gallon
With the exception of CVS and their great deals on milk, I am limited to how much I can buy there. This week CVS has a sale on milk for $2.99 and with Extrabucks rewards I can get it for $1.99 per gallon after rewards, but I am only allowed 2 offers. At Costco I can purchase as many gallons as I want for $2.89 per gallon. Every time I go to Costco I buy 4 gallons at a time and sadly I’m lucky to get a week out of it!
Tip: I have heard that you can freeze milk for up to 3 months in the freezer and the taste does not change but I have never tried it, use your descretion with this.
2. Kirkland Signature Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1.5 L $9.99
You cannot beat these prices even at Home Goods, I cook everyday and this is a necessity for me, I refuse to pay grocery store prices on a common household staple like this. Also you will hardly ever find coupons on Olive Oil and the Kirkland Signature(Costco’s brand) was top ranked in blind test tastings!
3. Kirkland Signature Pure Vermont Maple Syrup 1L $10.99
Again, you are not going to find coupons on this breakfast staple! This is an unbelievable deal for pure maple syrup, for those of you that haven’t tried pure maple syrup I suggest you run to Costco now to get it and you will never regret it! Once you have tried this you will not be going back to Aunt Jemima syrup and that I promise you! Sorry to all the people who like Aunt Jemima and sorry to Aunt Jemima but it’s just not the same!
4. Kirkland Signature Pure Vanilla Extract 16 oz $9.99
This is not an item I use everyday but for the bakers this is a must! Believe me, if you saw my pathetic attempt at making Monkey Bread last night you would know why I don’t bake! Other than my horribly failed attempts with baking I do always keep this in the house, it makes pancakes, waffles and French toast taste so much better, and for the bakers you all know what an awesome deal this is! You will never find coupons or sales for vanilla extract except during Thanksgiving & Christmas time. Just to give you guys an idea of what a great deal this is, Shoprite is currently selling pure vanilla extract for $5.99 for 2 oz and that’s their brand!
5. Produce
This is a must for me! My kids love fruit and every time I stock up on fruit at Costco, it lasts about 3 days! I was just at Costco tonight and this is what I bought:
3 lbs Bananas $1.39
1 Honeydew $4.49
1 Pineapple $2.99
2 lbs Strawberries $4.99
5 lbs Clementines $6.49
With the exception of the bananas and strawberries, these are not the best prices for produce, but I do live in NY and it is still winter here and I’m not going to argue with my kids if they want healthy snacks! For the most part, you will find the best prices on produce at Costco than most grocery stores.
6. Rotisserie Chicken 3 lbs $4.99
I am not a big fan of rotisserie chicken, unless it’s from Boston Market or Costco! At $4.99 for 3 lbs, I make this for dinner and use the rest of the chicken to make Chicken salad. This is an awesome deal for dinner and leftovers for lunches for the next 2 days!
7. Meat (any kind) Price depends on what meat and per lb.
A lot of “extremers” will disagree with this but I disagree with that! First off, almost all extreme couponers will say buy meat at your local grocery store on a Manager’s Special, I have nothing against that but Costco sets higher standards than your local store – you will never find meat on Manager’s Special at Costco. Who knows how long the meat has been sitting there for in your local store, there are regulations on that but they are not that strict with adhering to it. Second, Costco ONLY sells the best quality and that is why everything is marked Prime because that is the best you can buy, grocery stores don’t sell that. So that’s why I’m putting meat on this list, because of Costco’s high standards and quality!
8. Anti Pasta, prices depend on what you are buying
Here are somebody examples of: Fresh marinated mozzarella $11.99 for a tub, salami tray $9.99, prosciutto $8.99, Greek marinated olives $6.99 and so much more…..!
9. Kirkland Signature 120 K-Cup Pods $39.99
I know every extreme couponer reading this is cringing and crying in disgust! Truth is, I can’t stock up on enough coffee with sales and coupons to last me to the next sale cycle, if you buy the Costco brand this comes in at $.30 per cup. Also having a Keurig makes me drink so much more coffee than a regular machine, it is so easy for me to go through 7 cups a day and that this is worth the money and the sanity! A little fun fact: the man that invented the Keurig does not own or use a Keurig! His reasoning is, how hard is it to brew an old fashioned pot of coffee?! Here’s a link to his interview (just in case you were curious!) http://www.theblaze.com/news/2015/03/04/why-the-inventor-keurig-k-cups-says-he-doesnt-use-the-plastic-coffee-pods/
10. Bedding Sheets, Prices Vary Depending on Bed Size
Sorry I do not have pictures to share with you guys but I promise the next time I’m there (which will be very soon) I will take pictures and show them off! Last year I was able to buy a King duvet cover and 2 shams for $24.99! That same day I also bought a 6 piece King beddding set for $29.99! They also have great deals on throws and pillows, today I saw oversized throws (50″x60″) for $9.99 and a 2 pack of King size down alternative pillows for $19.99! Maybe for some this isn’t a great deal, but one thing to know about Costco is they stock quality items including bedding. Definitely keep your eyes on bedding because we all know how expensive this can get.
