Wow! This post is long overdue! I have been meaning to share this with you guys for awhile now but I completely forgot, I’m just glad I remembered
to share it in time for Mother’s Day! This whole project cost under $25 to make, I already had the stain, paint and screws-if you don’t have that, you will spend about an extra $10. For the paint go to Home Depot and buy it in the sample size which only only cost $3, it’s a lot cheaper than buying a gallon!
Also, another way I kept the costs down was to use project panel boards from Home Depot instead of using plywood. Project panel boards are very thin and flimsy and I would not recommend using it on furniture builds, to hang it on the wall is not a big deal-it’s easier too! The cost of a 2×4 project panel board is $4.99, and always look for straight boards, they tend to be bent a lot of the times. I have provided a link so you guys can see what they look like!

For the rest of the supplies I will provide links so you guys can find them!
Supplies Needed:
Desktop Calendar
2 Post-It Pads
Small Notepad
Galvanized Rectangle Bucket
Drawer Pull
2×4 Project Panel
(2) 1×3 @ 8 ft long
White Paint
Stain
Vaseline
Kreg Jig (optional)
Drill (optional)
Hammer & Nails
Wood Glue
Wood Screws
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Cut List:
2×4 Project Panel Cut to 35 inches
(2) 1×3 @ 38.5 inches
(2) 1×3 @ 21.5 inches
STEP 1:
Once you have all your cuts done you will make your pocket holes into the 1×3’s as seen in the picture below. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Kreg Jig, you can also use nails & wood glue or countersink your wood screws, just make sure the screws or nails are at least 2″ in length!
STEP 2:
Once you have all your pocket holes made connect all the 1×3’s together with your drill.
STEP 3:
When all the 1×3’s are connected, make sure everything fits over the project panel board like below.
STEP 4:
Flip it around and use some wood screws to attach the project panel to the 1×3’s. Yes those are sheet metal screws that I used! I ran out of wood screws and didn’t have small nails in the house, so I improvised!? The difference with wood screws is that they have more threads and can grip the wood better, but like I said before, the project panel is so thin I wasn’t really concerned. I do recommend using wood screws.
STEP 5:
Now for the fun part! Painting & Staining! I chose to do the Vaseline distressing method, basically you just rub Vaseline where you want it distressed and wherever you add the Vaseline, the paint and stain will not adhere.
STEP 6:
More paint! It was toooo White for me! Does that make any sense?! So I decided to add some light brown paint I bought at Target awhile ago, you can see it below. I used a dry brush and just scattered some paint wherever I thought it needed it! After the brown paint, I went over everything again with a foam roller brush to blend everything.
STEP 7:
Time for sanding! I use a power sander but you can definitely get away with just using regular sandpaper but I do suggest buying a sander, you can get one for $25.
STEP 8:
After I sanded I decided to add a little stain and let that sit for about 3 minutes I rubbed it off.
STEP 9:
Add some sawtooth hangers like you see below, those are push in ones, they don’t have nails so I like to use a little super glue just to be safe! You can find them here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BTL0V4Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1494173016&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sawtooth+hangers+100+pack+zinc&dpPl=1&dpID=41cOgYunTYL&ref=plSrch
STEP 10:
Now for the hardware, this is an optional step but I really liked these! I found this at Hobby Lobby and spray painted it white, you can find it below. Mark your measurements for the pull and attach it to the front top of the frame.

STEP 11:
Now add the calendar, the 2 Post-It pads and the notepad using hot glue. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of this!
STEP 12:
Add the galvanized bucket with some screws, you can see what it looked like before I added it, I didn’t want the flowers and plants sign to show so I turned it around. I found it at Michaels.
STEP 13:
Now it’s time to hang it on the wall! I could not find a stud for the life of me and I was being inpatient and didn’t feel like waiting for my husband to get home to help me! So I hung it on the wall with drywall anchors and again I forgot to take a picture of that, sorry!
