Hey guys, I’m back with another easy craft! I wanted to do this for a long time and completely forgot all about this until I was cleaning out the basement trying to get ready for the big move! Yup, we will hopefully be moving out August 1st, right before baby #5 is due! I definitely have a full plate right now, 4 kiddos, being pregnant and trying to pack an entire house before I get too big to want to do anything!
Well anyways, the sign I purchased from Amazon awhile ago and for some reason I can’t seem to find it on their site, so I’m really sorry about that! I got this before I purchased the Silhouette Cameo, if you have the Silhouette or any other crafting machine you can easily make this. If you don’t have a crafting machine you can just use your computer and print this out using different fonts, if for some reason you don’t have a word program go online for free fonts, I don’t know anything about those sites so please look into it more, I have read a lot of good things about free font sites but again I have never tried it so I am not going to vouch for them.
If you are on the fence about purchasing a Silhouette, I recommend buying it from Overstock-they definitely have the best deal on it right now! It is pricey but you can do so much with it.
This will be made using very little supplies, tools are optional! I did list 2 different saws in supplies needed but don’t worry, the guys at Home Depot will make the cuts for you!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
2×4 Project Panel Board (see below)
Wood Scroll Appliqué
Family Rules Sign
Craft Paper
White Paint
Varathane Stain in Briarsmoke
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Jute
Circular Saw or Table Saw
CUT LIST:
2×4 Project Panel Board cut to 13.25 inches wide, the length stay strong the same
STEP 1:
Stain your project panel, let it sit for 5 minutes before you rub it off. You can find it in Home Depot for $5.00, it’s very thin and flimsy but this is perfect for wall hangings because it’s so light and you don’t have to worry about trying to find studs to hang this! Meanwhile make your printed sign, the length of the paper is 16 inches long by 12 inches wide. The craft paper is 17 inches long by 12.5 inches wide.
STEP 2:
While the stain is drying, paint the wood scroll appliqué white, sorry I do not have a before picture! You can find the appliqués at any craft store, I got mine in Lowes, it was in the lumber section in the molding aisle. I’ve seen them in Michaels in the wood crafting aisle.
STEP 3:
While you’re waiting for the paint to dry, take your Family Rules Sign and mount it onto craft paper with a spray adhesive, I did not take a picture of me using the spray adhesive because you have to work fast with it! If you don’t have craft paper and you need to buy some I recommend buying contractors Paper from Lowes or Home Depot-that’s what I used, the reason I listed craft supply as a supply needed is because I didn’t want to confuse anyone with what it was! Now you guys can see it looks just like craft paper! The contractors Paper will cost less than $4 for a roll and you get about double the size of buying craft paper! I used Scotch 3M spray adhesive, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000PCWRMC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494184580&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=spray+adhesive&dpPl=1&dpID=41JFtN5ck2L&ref=plSrch
STEP 4:
Now add your sign & appliqué to the board with hot glue. You can measure where you want everything to sit but I just wing it and eyeball it!?
STEP 5:
Mark on the back of the board where you are going to hang your jute, I didn’t wing this step-definitely measure here! Just add jute to the back of the board with hot glue. I measured my jute at 10 inches long. Now it’s ready for hanging!
Now you’re ready to hang it on the wall!
