Hey guys, I’m back with another great DIY project! This time it’s a DIY Farmhouse Shadowbox Picture Frame. Isn’t it great, I love how it turned out! I had all of the supplies on hand so it cost me nothing to make this but I will break down the costs for you guys.
If you don’t own any kind of saws, the guys at Home Depot or Lowes will cut it for you! I did include a Miter Saw in the Supplies Needed because that’s what I used!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Miter Saw (optional)
Nail Gun or Hammer & Nails
1 x 6 x 8 (you can find this in a 6 ft board but it’s more cost efficient to buy it in a 8 ft board)
1 x 2 x 8 (you can
3 Mini Clips
Mini Banner Kit (I found mine in the Dollar Spot at Target but you can easily make your own with Craft Paper or Contractors Paper)
Alphabet Stickers (I found mine also in the Dollar Spot at Target but if you have nice handwriting you can free write it!)
Black String
Black Sharpie
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Wood Glue
White Chalk Paint
Stain
CUT LIST:
1 x 6 @ 24 inches
(2) 1 x 2 @ 27 inches
(2) 1 x 2 @ 5 1/2 inches
STEP 1:
Once all your own cuts are made, stain the 1 x 2’s and while that is drying, paint the 1 x 6 with white chalk paint. After the 1 x 6 is painted, rub the stain off the 1 x 2’s. For some reason I do not have any pictures of this step, I think the kiddos might have deleted them!? Sorry. Here is a recipe for DIY chalk paint and this is what I used: DIY Chalk Paint With Plaster of Paris.
STEP 2:
While the paint and stain are drying, start on the banner tags, I found them in Target’s Dollar Spot but you can definitely make your own using Craft Paper or Contractors Paper, just cut the paper into triangles, the tags are about 2 inches at the widest point and 3 inches long.
I also found these Alphabet stickers in Target’s Dollar Spot and I just colored them in with a black sharpie, if you have neat handwriting you can definitely free write this or you can just buy alphabet stickers anywhere! In Target they are in the craft aisle with all the scrapbook supplies.
After I colored the stickers I Mod Podged them on, it was too hard to get the paper backing off!
STEP 3:
Once the letters are done drying, string the banner and lay them on the wood to see where you want everything, I just eyeball it!? When you have the layout you want, attach the mini clips with hot glue.
I didn’t adhere the string til I was done assembling everything.
STEP 4:
Now it’s time to attach the 1 x 2 frame! Line the 1 x 2’s with a thin line of wood glue and nail in place.
After the glue is dried, take the black string from the banner and adhere to the back with hot glue. Now take your prints and cut down to size if you have to. I had 4 x 6 prints and they were a little too long so I just cut it down to size, I was being too lazy to go to the store and get the right size prints!
And there you have it! Another quick and easy DIY project in about an hour and depending and what supplies you have already, this will cost about $20-$50 without the tools. If you already have everything listed above expect for the wood, it’ll cost about $15.
