DIY 3 Ingredients Lotion Bars

Hey guys, I’m back with another great homemade beauty product! These DIY 3 Ingredients Lotion Bars are the perfect remedy for dry skin! With winter here, my skin gets so dry especially doing dishes constantly after 5 kids. I got tired of spending money on expensive hand creams that barely work so I decided to make my own. The added benefit to making your own beauty products is you know exactly what is in it and you know what you’re putting on your skin. This is not lotion that can be pumped, lotion bars are just bars that you rub on dry skin. You could add water to make it less hard, but then you would have to add preservatives to keep it from growing bacteria. Water is what creates mold, so if you do want a lotion make sure you add preservatives to keep it from growing mold. I will be posting a lotion recipe soon with preservatives!

These lotion bars requires about 30 minutes to make and you can make these to give out as gifts! Scroll to the bottom for some other great homemade beauty products.

You can add food coloring to change up the colors, you can also add essential oils for some therapeutic purposes! I chose not to add any food coloring or essential oils to mine to keep it strictly at 3 ingredients! These lotion bars can be made with so many different essential oil combinations to suit your needs.

I chose heart shaped molds because of Valentine’s day coming up, and it’s also what I found at Home Goods, they were $2.99 for 24! If you don’t have heart shaped silicone molds, you can use whatever you have on hand, if you do use molds, make sure you don’t reuse them for baking. The beeswax is so hard to clean off. If you don’t have molds, don’t worry about it, you can use a disposable foil pan and cut them into bars.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

1/2 Cup Coconut Oil (found mine at Target) (similar here)

1/2 Cup Beeswax Pellets* (here)

1/2 Cup Shea Butter (found mine at Target) (similar here)

This will make 24 little bars and it has a shelf life of 1 year. Store the bars in an airtight jar.

*You can use beeswax blocks but it takes so long to melt, so I chose to use the pellets instead. It takes about half an hour for those little guys to melt, that’s why I chose the pellets!

Step 1:

Boil water over high heat with a mason jar in the pan. You can use a large bowl if you prefer but I chose the mason jar because it’s less of a clean up! Beeswax gets very messy and sticky, so I use one mason jar for all my beeswax making projects. If you use a bowl, you will not be able to reuse it.

Step 2:

Once the water boils, lower the heat to medium and add your beeswax, coconut oil and shea butter. The beeswax will take about half and hour to melt, if you’re using beeswax blocks, it’ll take longer. Carefully stir occasionally with a spoon you will no longer use.

Step 3:

When all the beeswax is melted, carefully pour your melted mixture into the molds. You have to work fast here because everything will start to solidify fast. If you do add essential oils, make sure to add it to the melted mixture before you pour the mixture in the containers. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of this step!

Step 4:

Put all your molds in the fridge for about 2 hours to really let the mixture solidify. You have to heat it up a bit with your fingers, gently rub your fingers on the bars to put on, shea butter melts with heat. This is your finished result!

I store all my lotion bars in mason jars, you could wrap that up so nicely with some pretty twine and gift tag for gift giving! I did choose hearts because of Valentines Day but you could use any molds you want! Gingerbread molds would be so cute for Christmas!  Make sure you pin the image below!
