DIY $3 Welcome Sign
Hey guys, I’m back with another great and cheap craft! The only money I spent was $3, which is for the letters! Isn’t that great?! I found the letters at Target’s Dollar Spot. The link for the letters is provided below to Brickseek.com. You can check your local Target’s inventory! Target’s site currently does not have these letters in stock but you can keep checking! If you can’t find the “Welcome” letters from the Dollar Spot, you can purchase the letters separately from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. If you own a Silhouette or Cricut, you can make the stencil yourself!
I had scrap wood already leftover from a previous project, the size of the wood is 2×12 but you can use any size you have. The width of the board has to be at least 8 inches, the letters measure 7 inches across.
I cut the wood to 48 inches in length and stained it in Dark Walnut. While the stain was drying I painted the letters with a white acrylic paint. Again, you can use whatever you have on hand! This project is so easy and fun and can be made in a couple of hours! The longest time was waiting for the stain to dry!

*These are stencils, it was the closet I could find to the wood letters without it costing a fortune!
Step 1:
Cut your wood to size, if you do not own a saw the guys at Lowe’s or Home Depot will cut it for you.
Step 2:
Stain the wood with wood stain, let the stain sit for 5 minutes before wiping off. If you want your wood lighter in color wipe it off faster, and if you want it darker, let it sit longer. I used paper towels to wipe the stain off, but you can use old shirts or rags.
Step 3:
While the stain is drying, paint your letters with acrylic paint. I used 2 coats of paint.

Step 4:
After everything is dry, lay out your letters how you want it and attach the letters with hot glue.
Step 5:
Now admire your new piece of art!?
There are so many variations you can do with this, and it is so easily customizable to suit your taste! I would love to see what you guys come up with! As always, happy crafting! Check out this DIY Reversible Sign for a different variation of this sign.
