Homemade Playdough
25 Days of Christmas – Day 9
Now, this a great craft to get the kids involved with! They will definitely LOVE making this Homemade Playdough. This would make a great gift the kids can make for their friends.
This Homemade Playdough is the perfect indoor activity for when it’s raining or too cold to play outside. My kids love playing with play dough because it is soft and squishy, but doesn’t stick, a HUGE benefit for us moms!
The play dough will last for months in a zip lock bag, it’s inexpensive to make, and it keeps the kids busy!
To kick off the Christmas spirit, I will be sharing with you homemade gift ideas or a favorite Christmas recipe! These posts will run everyday for 25 days. Make sure to check back everyday for those posts, or better yet-sign up for my emails so you don’t miss anything! For yesterday’s post, read here: DIY Snowy Candle Holders.

You can make this without the cream of tartar but it helps make the playdough more stretchy. It also helps with the crumbles!
STEPS:
Stir together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large pot.
Next add the water and oil.
*ONLY if you are making this Playdough with one color, add in the the color now. If you are making this with different colors, read below. Start with 5 drops of food coloring and add more to get your desired color. This is definitely the preferred method for using food coloring. It’s a pain to mix in the colors in later on. Since, I was only making green Playdough I chose this method.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
The playdough will start to get a little lumpy and that’s fine. Just keep stirring!
Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball and all the lumps are out. This entire process should take a few minutes.
Remove from heat and then place inside a ziploc bag. Allow to cool then knead until smooth.
If you’re adding different colors, divide the playdough into balls in ziploc bags. Knead the dough while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your hands.
Now, you officially have your own Homemade Playdough!
